Shipping from a Singapore Shopify store

Information checked as of 3 October 2026

Singapore is small enough that a parcel can cross it in an afternoon, and connected enough that your next order might be headed to Sydney. Shopify handles both, but some of the features you read about in Shopify's guides aren't switched on for Singapore, and the carriers you'll actually use connect through their own apps. This guide covers the local carriers and how they plug into Shopify, the shipping settings worth getting right, what changes when you ship overseas, and the practical bits: weight, lockers and returns. Carrier sites, the Shopify Help Center and Singapore Customs are the sources throughout.

We don't quote prices here. Carrier rates change often and depend on your account, so every carrier section links to that carrier's own rate page instead.

The short version

First, the Shopify Shipping question

Shopify Shipping is Shopify's built-in way to buy discounted carrier labels from the admin. Shopify's label setup page lists the countries where it works, based on where you fulfil orders from: the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and some European countries. Singapore isn't on the list, and Shopify's Singapore blog gives a matching list of countries.

So a Singapore store doesn't buy labels inside Shopify. You install a carrier's app, or use the carrier's own portal, and it handles labels, pickups and tracking. Shopify still handles the rates your customers see at checkout, which is the part covered further down.

Local carriers and how they connect to Shopify

Here's what each carrier offers for Shopify, based on its App Store listing and its own website. Where we could only find the carrier's own word for it, we say so.

SingPost

Singapore Post publishes the SingPost‑Shipping & Fulfilment app in the Shopify App Store. It's free to install, with shipping billed through your SingPost account (the listing mentions ezy2ship; SingPost's newer app guide refers to Ship.SingPost). The listing says it syncs your orders, creates shipments, prints labels, books collections and sends tracking back to Shopify. SingPost's eCommerce page and its Shopify app guide describe the same setup, and the guide walks through connecting the app to that account.

If you plan to ship overseas, ask SingPost whether the app covers your international services before you rely on it. Rates are on SingPost's delivery rates page and rate calculator.

Ninja Van

Ninja Van's own Ninja Van app is free to install. Its App Store listing says it creates delivery orders from your Shopify orders and prints airway bills, with support for partial fulfilment and return orders. Ninja Van's Singapore help guide walks through the same installation from your Ninja Van dashboard. Rates are on Ninja Van's delivery rates page.

J&T Express

J&T Express Singapore says on its website that it integrates with Shopify to sync your orders. We couldn't find a J&T Singapore app in the Shopify App Store (the J&T app listed there is for Mexico), so ask J&T how the connection works for your account. For a quote, start from J&T's last-mile delivery page.

Qxpress

Qxpress, whose site now carries the TracX Logis name, published a notice explaining how to link a Shopify store through its SmartShip system. It's an older notice and the only source we found, so confirm with Qxpress that the link is still supported before you build around it.

Lalamove and Pickupp

For same-day and on-demand delivery, two apps stand out:

DHL Express for international parcels

The official DHL Express app needs a DHL Express account. Its listing says it can show live DHL rates at checkout, create customs documents and send customs data electronically. DHL Express Commerce's integrations page lists the same native Shopify connection. DHL rates depend on your account, so ask DHL for a quote.

Other carriers exist, and new apps appear often. Before you install one, check who publishes it: an app from the carrier itself is usually the safer choice.

Setting up shipping in Shopify

Whichever carrier you use, the rates your customers see at checkout come from Settings > Shipping and delivery. Shopify is moving some stores to shipping options set per market and migrates existing stores automatically, so your screens may look slightly different from the descriptions below.

Zones and profiles

Rate types

If you want different flat rates in local currencies for overseas customers, Shopify says that needs Shopify Payments.

Live carrier rates need the right plan

Showing a carrier's live quote at checkout uses Shopify's third-party carrier-calculated shipping. Shopify includes it on the Advanced and Plus plans. On Grow it's available as a paid add-on or with annual billing. Shopify's developer documentation says the same: apps that add carrier rates need Advanced or higher, annual billing or the add-on. See Shopify's carrier-calculated shipping page for your plan, and check the current cost on Shopify's pricing page before you upgrade for it.

Of the carrier accounts Shopify connects directly, UPS and FedEx work for stores anywhere. USPS, Canada Post and Australia Post work only for stores in their own countries. If you're on a plan without carrier-calculated shipping, flat or weight-based rates that roughly match your carrier's prices are a simple alternative.

Local delivery

Shopify's local delivery option suits stores that deliver themselves, or book a courier per order:

Pickup in store

If you have a shop, studio or warehouse customers can visit, turn on Pickup in store for that location under Settings > Shipping and delivery. The location has to be set to fulfil online orders. Customers then see pickup as an option at checkout.

Packing slips

Shopify can print packing slips one at a time or in bulk from the Orders page. You can edit the template, which uses Liquid, to add your logo, return instructions or a note in the box.

Shipping overseas

International orders add three questions: whether Singapore Customs needs a permit, what paperwork goes with the parcel, and who pays the import charges at the other end.

Do you need an export permit?

Singapore Customs exempts some exports from needing a permit, as long as the goods aren't dutiable or controlled. The exemptions include:

The Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations set out the same exemptions. Controlled goods need approval from the relevant authority, and some goods can't be exported at all. Singapore Customs' controlled and prohibited goods page links to a product code checker you can use to find out where your products sit.

If you do need permits, Singapore Customs says you must first have a UEN from ACRA (or another issuing agency) and activate a Customs account. Our guide to registering with ACRA covers the UEN part.

Customs paperwork and HS codes

Your carrier's app or portal will ask for what's inside each parcel and what it's worth. The DHL Express app, for example, creates customs documents and sends the data electronically. Add an HS code and country of origin to each product in Shopify. Shopify needs HS codes to calculate duties at checkout, and having them in one place saves retyping them for every shipment.

Duties and import taxes: DDP or DAP

Somebody pays the import charges in the destination country. There are two common arrangements:

Shopify can collect duties and import taxes at checkout, but there are conditions:

If you ship DAP, say so plainly on your shipping policy page, so overseas customers aren't surprised by a bill at the door.

Prohibited and dangerous goods

Carriers have their own lists on top of Customs rules, and the destination country has its own too. Two examples:

If you sell beauty products or electronics, check your carrier's list before you promise international delivery.

GST on exports

If you're GST-registered, IRAS lets you zero-rate exported goods if you keep the right export documents, generally within 60 days. Our GST guide for Shopify stores covers how this works.

The practical bits

Weigh and measure everything

Weight-based rates and carrier quotes are only as good as the product weights in Shopify. Weigh each product as it will ship, packaging included. Carriers may also charge by volumetric weight when a parcel is large but light. J&T Express and SingPost's Speedpost both work it out as length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 5,000, and charge whichever is higher, actual or volumetric weight. Other carriers and services may use a different divisor, so check your carrier's terms.

Lockers and pickup points

SingPost says it runs more than 70 POPStation locations, alongside other parcel lockers. Customers collect with a PIN, and returns can be dropped off at any time. Ninja Van runs Ninja Points, staffed pickup and drop-off points rather than lockers. Both are worth mentioning on your shipping page if your carrier delivers to them.

Returns

Decide who pays for return shipping, how long customers have to return items, and how they send items back. Then write all of it into your refund policy before you need it. Some carrier tools help here: Ninja Van's app can create return orders, and SingPost's lockers accept return drop-offs.

Setting your rates

Once you know your carriers' prices, turn them into checkout rates: a flat local rate, a free-shipping minimum, a surcharge for bulky items, and different options for overseas zones. Our guide to setting different shipping rates for different products shows how to do it with Shopify's native settings. When your rules start depending on product tags, cart contents and destinations all at once, Giraffe Shipping lets you set them up for Shopify checkout without code or theme edits.

FAQ

Can I buy discounted Shopify Shipping labels in Singapore?

No. Shopify Shipping labels are only available for stores that fulfil orders from the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and some European countries. Singapore stores create labels through a carrier's app or account instead, such as the SingPost, Ninja Van or DHL Express apps.

How do I offer same-day delivery in Singapore on Shopify?

Turn on Shopify's local delivery and set your delivery area by postal code or radius, then deliver orders yourself or book a courier. Lalamove and Pickupp both have Shopify apps for same-day or on-demand delivery. Showing an app's live quote at checkout needs Shopify's carrier-calculated shipping, which depends on your plan.

Do I need an export permit to ship Shopify orders overseas?

Often not. Singapore Customs exempts goods sent by parcel post, goods exported by air worth S$1,000 or less in total, and trade samples or gifts worth S$400 or less, as long as they aren't dutiable or controlled. Controlled or dutiable goods need a permit, so check your products with the Customs product code checker.

Should I charge international customers duties at checkout?

Charging duties at checkout (DDP) means no surprise bill for your customer, but Shopify needs HS codes on your products and DDP labels from a carrier that supports them. The alternative is DAP, where the customer pays duties on delivery. If you ship DAP, say so clearly in your shipping policy.

Can customers collect parcels from a locker or pickup point in Singapore?

Yes, depending on your carrier. SingPost says it runs more than 70 POPStation locker locations, and Ninja Van has staffed Ninja Point pickup and drop-off points. If customers can collect from your own shop or warehouse, Shopify's Pickup in store option adds that choice at checkout.

A reminder: this guide is general information. Carrier services, Shopify features and customs rules change, so check the carrier, Shopify and Singapore Customs pages linked here before you set up your shipping.

If you're still choosing a platform, a Shopify trial lets you set up shipping zones, local delivery and carrier apps and test them on real checkouts before you launch.
