B2B and wholesale on Shopify in Singapore
Many Singapore brands sell to cafés, retailers, offices and resellers as well as to consumers. Shopify now has native B2B tools on most plans, so you may not need a separate wholesale site or an app. This guide covers what each plan includes, how companies, catalogues and payment terms work, when an app still helps, and the IRAS invoicing rules that matter for trade customers.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice. It summarises Shopify and IRAS sources as of the date above. Shopify changes plan features from time to time, so check your admin before you build around a feature.
Native B2B by plan
According to Shopify's B2B help and its features by plan page, B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, but not on Starter or Retail. The Shopify Changelog announced the extension of B2B beyond Plus.
- Basic, Grow and Advanced: companies and company locations, up to three active B2B market catalogues, net payment terms, payment reminders, vaulted cards, quantity rules and volume pricing.
- Plus only: unlimited catalogues, catalogues assigned directly to a company, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfilment.
- Advanced and Plus: more control over a contextual storefront for B2B buyers through Markets.
You can run B2B and consumer sales from one store or set up a separate wholesale store. Shopify's B2B page describes the same one-store approach.
Companies and customer accounts
In Shopify B2B, each trade buyer is a company with one or more locations, such as an outlet or a head office, and one or more customers who can order for it. Each location can have its own shipping address, billing address, catalogue and payment terms. Buyers sign in through customer accounts and see the prices and terms set for their location, while consumers see your retail store.
Record the company's UEN and GST registration number when you set it up. You'll need them for tax invoices, and they help you check that a buyer is a real business.
Catalogues and price lists
A catalogue controls which products a B2B buyer can see and what they pay. You can set a percentage adjustment across the catalogue, such as 30% off retail, or set fixed prices per product or variant. On non-Plus plans, catalogues are attached to B2B markets, and you can have up to three active ones, so plan your tiers (for example, retail partners, F&B and distributors) to fit.
Quantity rules and volume pricing
Quantity rules let you set a minimum, maximum and increment per product in a catalogue, such as a minimum of 12 and multiples of 6 for cartons. Volume pricing gives a lower unit price at higher quantities. Shopify lists both as available on all B2B-eligible plans. Show the rules clearly on product pages so buyers aren't surprised at checkout.
Payment terms and net terms
You can assign payment terms to each company location: due on fulfilment, or Net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days. Buyers on net terms check out without paying, and the order shows a due date. Shopify can send payment reminders, and buyers can pay later with a vaulted card or a manual method. Deposits and partial payments are Plus features.
Only offer net terms to buyers you trust, and keep a credit limit in mind; Shopify doesn't run credit checks for you.
PayNow and bank transfer for B2B
Most Singapore businesses pay suppliers by PayNow to a UEN or by bank transfer. In Shopify you can add these as manual payment methods with your account or UEN details, then mark the order as paid when funds arrive. Card payments go through Shopify Payments and land in your payouts; manual payments don't. For PayNow at checkout through a gateway, see our PayNow and GrabPay guide.
Draft orders and invoices
Draft orders let you build an order for a buyer, apply B2B pricing and terms, and send an invoice email with a checkout link. They suit orders taken by phone, WhatsApp or a sales visit, and quotes for custom work. Our service business guide covers draft orders for deposits and invoices.
Note that Shopify's invoice email is a payment request, not necessarily an IRAS-compliant tax invoice. Check your invoice template or use an order printer app that includes the required fields.
Wholesale apps for other plans
If you're on Starter or need features the native tools don't offer, wholesale apps add tiered pricing, trade sign-up forms and order forms. Examples on the Shopify App Store include Wholesale Gorilla, SparkLayer and Wholesale Pricing Discount B2B. Check each listing for plan compatibility and whether it uses native B2B catalogues or its own discount logic; running both can cause price conflicts.
IRAS tax invoices vs simplified invoices
If you're GST-registered, the IRAS invoicing page sets these rules:
- You must issue a tax invoice to a GST-registered customer within 30 days of the time of supply. It must be labelled "tax invoice" and show your name, address and GST registration number, an invoice number, the date, the customer's name and address, a description, quantities, the amount excluding GST, the GST rate and amount, and the total.
- You can issue a simplified tax invoice if the total including GST is S$1,000 or less. It needs fewer details and can show a GST-inclusive total with the words "Price Payable includes GST". It shouldn't be used for zero-rated or exempt supplies.
- For non-GST-registered customers, such as consumers, you aren't required to issue a tax invoice; a receipt is enough.
Keep copies of all invoices for at least five years, as set out in IRAS's record-keeping guidance. Net terms don't delay GST: the time of supply is generally the earlier of the invoice or the payment, according to IRAS's guidance on when to report supplies. So you may owe GST before a Net 60 buyer pays. Also watch IRAS's InvoiceNow requirement for GST-registered businesses, which is being phased in.
A simple setup checklist
- Confirm your plan includes B2B, or pick an app.
- Create companies and locations with UEN, GST number and addresses.
- Build up to three catalogues for your price tiers and add quantity rules.
- Set payment terms per location and add PayNow or bank transfer as manual methods.
- Check your invoice template against IRAS's tax invoice fields.
- Test the buyer journey with a test company before inviting real customers.

Frequently asked questions
Which Shopify plans include B2B?
Shopify says B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Shopify Plus plans, but not on Starter or Retail. Non-Plus plans get the core features with limits, such as up to three active B2B market catalogues; Plus adds unlimited catalogues and features such as deposits.
Can I run wholesale and retail from one Shopify store?
Yes. Shopify's B2B help says you can use one store for both B2B and direct-to-consumer sales, or set up a separate B2B-only store. B2B buyers are set up as companies and see their own catalogue, prices and payment terms when they sign in.
Do I need to issue a tax invoice to my B2B customers?
If you're GST-registered, IRAS requires a tax invoice for supplies to GST-registered customers, issued within 30 days of the time of supply. A simplified tax invoice is allowed when the total including GST is S$1,000 or less. Shopify's default order emails aren't a substitute, so check your invoice template or app.
Can B2B customers pay by PayNow or bank transfer?
Yes, as a manual payment method. Add a bank transfer or PayNow option with your UEN details in Shopify's payment settings, and mark orders as paid when the money arrives. Net terms let buyers place an order now and pay by the due date.
Do I need a wholesale app?
Not always. If your plan includes Shopify B2B, catalogues, quantity rules, volume pricing and net terms are built in. Apps such as Wholesale Gorilla or SparkLayer are mainly useful on plans without native B2B or when you need features the native tools don't cover.
Selling to trade buyers as well as consumers? A Shopify trial lets you set up companies, catalogues and net terms in one store before you commit to a plan.
