Buy now, pay later on Shopify in Singapore

Information checked as of 8 October 2026

Buy now, pay later (BNPL) lets a customer split a purchase into instalments, or pay next month, while you get paid for the order. Singapore shoppers know it well, but the list of providers has changed a lot since 2023, and many guides still recommend services that have closed or never launched here. This guide covers which BNPL options a Singapore Shopify store can actually offer, how each one connects to Shopify, what customers see, how you get paid, how refunds work, and the rules that protect consumers.

This is general information, not legal or financial advice. It summarises the providers' published pages, Shopify's Help Center, the Singapore FinTech Association and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as of the date above. Providers change their terms often, so check the live pages in the References before you sign up.

The short version

Which BNPL providers operate in Singapore in 2026

Atome lets shoppers split a purchase into three interest-free payments. Atome's merchant page describes it this way, and HitPay's and Razorpay's Atome pages say the same.

PayLater by Grab lets shoppers pay next month or in four interest-free instalments, according to Grab's merchant brand guidelines. HitPay also lists 8- and 12-instalment plans, and ShopBack's help centre notes that Grab charges customers a processing fee on those longer plans.

Several names you'll still see in older articles are gone or never launched here:

Shopify's own options: Shop Pay Installments and GrabPay

Shop Pay Installments isn't available in Singapore. Shopify says it's only for business entities located in the US, Canada or UK, with customers in the same country. A Singapore Shopify Payments account isn't eligible, even if you sell to customers in those countries.

GrabPay through Shopify Payments isn't PayLater. Shopify offers GrabPay to some Singapore stores in early access. Shopify describes it as a wallet payment: the customer is redirected to GrabPay and pays from their wallet balance. Shopify's page doesn't mention PayLater, so if you want PayLater by Grab, use one of the routes below. Our guide to PayNow and GrabPay on Shopify explains the early-access GrabPay option in more detail.

How to add BNPL to a Singapore Shopify store

Through HitPay

HitPay's Shopify app adds HitPay as a payment option at checkout. HitPay's Shopify docs list Atome and GrabPay PayLater among the methods you can test in sandbox mode, alongside PayNow and cards. HitPay says Atome is switched on for your HitPay account after Singapore business verification, with no separate Atome contract needed. Its PayLater by Grab page says the same for Grab. This is the simplest route if you already use HitPay for PayNow.

Through Grab Checkout

Grab says its checkout solutions, which cover GrabPay and PayLater, come with pre-built integrations for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento. Grab Checkout appears in Shopify's list of payment providers for Singapore. You apply to Grab as a merchant first.

Through Airwallex

Airwallex's plugin documentation lists Atome as a buy now, pay later method for Singapore and Malaysia merchants, and Shopify as one of the supported platforms.

Directly with Atome

Atome's help centre lists Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix and other platforms it can integrate with, and its merchant page asks retailers to contact its merchant team to set up.

Whichever route you choose, Shopify charges its third-party transaction fee on payments through providers other than Shopify Payments. The rate depends on your plan, so check Shopify's Singapore pricing page.

What your customer sees

  1. At checkout, the customer picks the BNPL option, or picks your gateway (such as HitPay) and then the BNPL method.
  2. They're redirected to Atome or Grab to log in and approve the instalment plan. Razorpay's Atome documentation describes this redirect step.
  3. The provider decides whether to approve the purchase and what limit applies. You don't see their credit check.
  4. They return to your store, and the order is marked paid.

Because the provider decides who gets approved, some customers will be declined or offered a lower limit. Under the industry Code, an overdue customer is suspended from making new BNPL purchases with that provider. Keep a second payment method, such as cards or PayNow, at checkout.

Fees and settlement

The merchant pays for BNPL, not the customer, as long as the customer pays on time. Merchant fees vary by provider, route and deal, and they change, so we don't quote them here. See HitPay's Singapore pricing, and ask Atome, Grab or Airwallex for their current rates.

In return, you're paid for the whole order rather than in instalments. HitPay and Razorpay both say merchants receive the full Atome amount up front while the customer pays in three instalments. HitPay says that with PayLater by Grab, the full amount is released to you after the order is completed and Grab carries the instalment risk. When the money reaches your bank depends on your gateway's payout schedule, not on Shopify Payments. Our guide to Shopify Payments payouts in Singapore explains why those payouts arrive separately.

Refunds, returns and disputes

Refund BNPL orders through the same provider that took the payment. What happens next depends on the provider:

BNPL doesn't move responsibility for the goods away from you. Grab's general merchant terms say Grab isn't involved in the agreement between you and the customer, and that it can withhold your revenue while disputes or chargebacks are investigated. Check your BNPL provider's or gateway's merchant terms for how it handles disputes. Your legal duties under Singapore's Lemon Law and the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act are the same however the customer paid. Our guide to returns, refunds and the Lemon Law covers them.

The BNPL Code of Conduct and MAS

BNPL providers in Singapore follow an industry Code of Conduct that the Singapore FinTech Association (SFA) and BNPL firms wrote under MAS's guidance. It was announced in October 2022, and SFA says all BNPL providers have been expected to comply since 1 November 2023. Its main protections, from SFA's announcement, the Code itself and MAS's replies in Parliament:

MAS says compliance with the Code is voluntary, but all four BNPL providers in Singapore were accredited by May 2024, and SFA had reported no breaches as of February 2025. In February 2026, MAS said BNPL was under 2% of the value of card payments in the first half of 2025, and that no further measures were needed for now, though it would keep monitoring.

The Code governs the BNPL providers, not merchants. But it shapes what you can say, because customers can be declined, suspended or charged late fees.

Marketing BNPL without misleading anyone

Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, making a false or misleading claim to a consumer is an unfair practice. The Act's Second Schedule lists specific examples, including claiming a price benefit that doesn't exist, and misrepresenting the rights or obligations a transaction involves.

Setup checklist

  1. Decide which provider fits: Atome, PayLater by Grab, or both.
  2. Choose a route: HitPay, Grab Checkout, Airwallex or Atome directly.
  3. Compare merchant fees on the providers' own pages, and add Shopify's third-party transaction fee.
  4. Install and test in sandbox or test mode, including a refund.
  5. Check that only methods that are actually live are shown at checkout.
  6. Use the provider's approved wording on product pages and banners.
  7. Add a line to your refund policy explaining how BNPL refunds are processed.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Singapore Shopify store offer Shop Pay Installments?

No. Shopify says Shop Pay Installments is only available to business entities in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, for customers in the same country. A Singapore Shopify Payments account isn't eligible, so Singapore stores use Atome or PayLater by Grab instead.

How do I add Atome to my Shopify store in Singapore?

Through a payment provider that supports it, or by contacting Atome. HitPay's Shopify app supports Atome, and HitPay says it's enabled on your HitPay account after Singapore business verification. Airwallex also lists Atome for Singapore merchants on Shopify, and Atome lists Shopify among the platforms it integrates with.

Is hoolah or ShopBack PayLater still available?

No. ShopBack bought hoolah in 2021 and renamed it ShopBack PayLater, then discontinued the service in Singapore and Malaysia on 22 March 2024. Older guides that recommend it are out of date.

Do I get paid in full when a customer uses buy now, pay later?

Yes. HitPay and Razorpay say merchants receive the full Atome order amount up front while the customer pays in instalments, and HitPay says the same for PayLater by Grab. You pay a merchant fee for this. When the money reaches your bank depends on your payment provider's payout schedule.

Is buy now, pay later regulated in Singapore?

It follows an industry Code of Conduct written by the Singapore FinTech Association and BNPL firms with MAS guidance. MAS says compliance is voluntary, but all four providers in Singapore were accredited by May 2024. The Code caps each customer's balance with a provider at S$2,000 without extra credit checks, caps fees and suspends customers who miss payments.
